I was listening to Loïc Prigent interview Tim Blanks for his podcast as I was creating this collection’s product pages and it got me interested in analysing the reviews written for what used to be Style(dot)com, today’s Vogue Runway page.
Then, checking the thumbnails and the backstage of Galliano’s Fall 2000 Ready-to-Wear collection for Dior… there it was! So cool to see that my mom’s huge chunky golden chain that I wear all the time with the logo backwards is opening the show… worn around a Brazilian model’s neck!
The whole show is full with Brazilian energy. Gisele’s make-up is amazing — her brows are as if shaved diagonally, mimicking a rapper’s rebellious look but (probably Pat McGrath’s) glam. Gisele Bündchen, Caroline Ribeiro, Fernanda Tavares, Isabelli Fontana, Raíssa, Ana Beatriz Barros, Mariana Weickert, Alessandra Ambrosio… eight models (at least) in a 60-look line-up.
Ten years later I would be dressing Ana Beatriz Barros for a Dior show by John Galliano backstage in Paris! Dior shows by Galliano was always so glamorous and beautiful and fun! Every inch of it, from (natural flower!) hair and (full-body!) makeup to location and the buttons sewn on jackets (the sewing ladies came backstage to admire their own work!)… these shows felt like pleasure and artistry.
I have never stopped to analyze fashion show reviews or point of views so I am taking a moment this quiet and cold Friday night to do so! I have read Sarah Mower’s and Hamish Bowles… let’s see where Nicole Phelps and Tim Blanks are and what do they say!
